Fortress

PINBACK

AUTUMN OF THE SERAPHS

FORTRESS

Today i wanted to do a review of a Pinback song and i really wanted to find "loro", but it remains unfound. So instead I chose "Fortress". I really enjoy this song and think the video complements it nicely. Id like to point out two things that caught my eye in this video. ONE When the knights get caterpolted into the battle. TWO the animation is A-mazing! The shading and choice of color give it a feel that flows with Pinback's buoyant sound. I wonder who did the dance choreography? Great video, great song.

LYRICS

Too long til fall, sick summer in bed
You and a lazy mood
Ten times the fall, spread, sacked, and I've failed
Nobody move, nobody move

To long to fall
Sat shiver in bed
You and a test of will
Too many fallen, too many failed
Nobody move, nobody move

Days with the light off, freezing
You and I, uneasy, livid

Stop, it's too late
I'm feeling frustrated
I see no sign of fortress
I see no sign of fortress

Safe as a cootie wootie with you
Never pretend the chill
Too many shadows, too many sails
Nobody move, nobody move

Summer is only winter with you
How can you really feel?
Two of another, none of a pair
Nobody move, nobody move

Days with the light off, freezing
You and I, uneasy, livid

Stop, it's too late
I'm feeling frustrated
I see no sign of fortress
I see no sign of fortress

Another delay, too many hassles
Where do we go, how do we follow?

Your New Twin Sized Bed

DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE

NARROW STAIRS

YOUR NEW TWIN SIZED BED

From the first time the sound waves past from my iPod, through my headphones and into my ears i fell in love with this song. The intro guitar work presents a melodic chill that you honestly cant help but to sway your head side to side through. It instantly reminded me of a day I spent on the beach watching the wind push the trees back and forth, as i pondered a past relationship that hadn't ended the way I would have liked. I felt the rythem well placed, and lead nicely into the perspective that this person infact is reflecting the defeat of loneliness.

The individual in the song went to the such desperate lengths to find love that they had bought a large sized bed with hopes of having someone to lay besides them. In all honesty this exact senario could come across as quite creepy but lets asume they're mind wasn't so shallow. Many can relate to the fact that in life, we find that when we're lonely, we place ourselves in a state of dispair, always searching for that "oportunity" to find true love. I've noticed in mine and the lifes of others that achiving true love rarely comes when sought after, it is more of something stumbled upon, coincidently or fatefully. I know that everyone will have their own opinion on this. These kinds of people have their moments of despair weather by means of starting a uncompatible relationship, maybe joining an online dating service, or simply finding theirself subconsciously searching through crowds of people. Ben Gibbard extremely chose purchasing a larger bed.

So as the song follows into its bridge at 2:10 it states "I try not to worry but you've got me terrified, its like were in some kind of hurry to say goodbye." What in the world could this possibly mean or have to do with buying a twin sized bed? I'm sure we all can develop our own explanation, but I concluded it was the person declaring that their mind had made them overly concerned with the search for that fellowship of another, that its now brought them to the point of giving up, or saying goodbye to their search for ending their state of solitude. I'd also like to encourage observing the lead guitar part during this part because it really makes you want to tell the guy a "I feel ya dog", and thats how stunning the lead is!

In ending i would say this song is very well thought out and even more impressivly expressed. I feel that if we find ourselfs in this type of factor we should not go at it so franticly, but take our time and find that person we can truely enjoy being with.
